Snore Guard Reviews – Stop Snoring Mouthpiece
Snore Guard – An Old Dog Running Out Of Tricks
It was a real surprise to me when I started my research of Snore Guard to find that it was manufactured in 1989.
I have to commend the manufactures of Snore Guard for constructing, what is obviously a pretty successful anti snoring device. Whether or not you relate to this device it doesn’t really matter because people must have been buying it over all these years for it to still be on the market.
It must work as well because it wouldn’t still be around if it didn’t.
In line with all the other reviews on my website I wish to mention something extremely important which effects every snorer on the planet.
In 2012 a couple of major scientific studies relating to Sleep Apnea and Snoring were released to the public. They had been carried out in the USA and extended over long periods of time [up to 22 years] plus involved large numbers of patients [up to 1522].
I have written articles based on these studies and would strongly suggest you read them before you leave my website.

- Snoring Linked To Stroke And Heart Disease

Could Snore Guard Save Your Life ???
Perhaps this is a bit dramatic but then again maybe it isn’t. By now you should understand that snoring is not good for your health and there are numerous benefits to controlling it.
I have written an article titled Stop Snoring – The Benefits To You and in the article I talk about the significant social and health issues my wife and I struggled with when we snored. I also talk about the life changing events that took place as a result of us controlling our snoring.
The benefits to you as a snorer are huge, if you could only just eliminate it from your life. I encourage you to read the article and try to understand how devastating snoring can be to you in the long term if you continue to let it go uncontrolled.
It might take a bit of work on your behalf but the rewards are life changing.
Is Snore Guard Popular
As I have already mentioned, Snore Guard appears to have initially been manufactured in 1989 and when I found this out I was most surprised to see that a search on the Google Adwords keyword tracker, recorded only 6600 searches around the world each month.
I think the main reason for this is the fact that:
- It’s only available in Canada and the USA.
- Snore Guard can only be purchased via the internet if you live in Canada……not the USA. There is no need for a medical prescription if you live in Canada but there is a need for one in the USA.
- Snore Guard USA sales are limited to those generated via Dentists and Physicians despite the US market being ten times bigger than across the boarder.
- Search trends using Google suggests interest has doubled from 2004 however they aren’t anywhere near competitor numbers.
My opinion is that it is still relatively popular but if it was marketed better it may have more appeal.

How Does Snore Guard Stop Snoring
Snoring is generally caused by partially blocked airways in the rear of the throat. When we sleep, we relax and in doing so our muscles react in the same way. In particular, those muscles and soft tissues at the rear of our throat. This then causes our tongue, upper throat, uvula and soft palate to vibrate against each other creating vibrations and noise.
The way Snore Guard works is by holding the lower jaw or mandibular as it is called, in a slight advanced/forward position [approx 1mm – 3mm] whilst we sleep. This is known as mandibular repositioning and has the immediate effect of ensuring your air passage is open, so that no soft tissue towards the rear of the throat blocks the air passage, causing vibration and the snoring noise we are familiar with.
We all know we do not snore when awake and upright and so Snore Guard attempts to maintain the position of our jaw and tongue in the very same location. The developers of Snore Guard do not believe it’s totally necessary to extend the lower jaw/mandibular forward to a huge extent, unless in rare cases.
Does Snore Guard Really Work
Snore Guard promotes the success of their mouthpiece by quoting from a number of studies they have completed years ago. The references below are from the official website and go as far back as 1990 and 1995.
Users of Snore Guard report significant improvement of sleep quality and a return of symptoms when it’s not used.
- 99% reported reduced snoring and 50% reported elimination of snoring
- 80% reported decreased sleep disturbance with treatment
- A study of 75 people wearing the device showed snoring improved in all patients except one, and sleep quality and sleepiness also improved.
It’s important you interpret the statistics in context. I would be very careful to not misinterpret the 99% quote on their website as a success rate.
The reality is Snore Guard has been used successfully for people since 1989. How many people, in terms of the percentage who have tried it remains open. Longevity of a product is always a good indication of success.
The Cost And Where To Buy Snore Guard
There’s a couple of ways to buy your mouthpiece from the Snore Guard website if you reside in Canada.
1. You can choose the generous 30 day trial on offer for only $7.95 and provided you are happy to continue, you automatically pay an additional $59.90 on completion of the trial, usually on day 31.
2. You can buy the anti snoring mouthpiece outright for $59.90 plus shipping of $7.95. If you aren’t happy with the mouthpiece within the 30 day money back guarantee, simply return it.
One nice little bonus on offer is if you decide to buy a second unit at the same time then you will only have to pay $39.95 with no additional shipping costs.
Please Note: The shipping and processing isn’t refundable if you decide to return the device. This is normal practice.
If you reside in the USA then purchasing a Snore Guard is not as easy as it could be. You cannot purchase through the website because they do not have the necessary online prescription requirements to be able to do so. I don’t know why they have not done this because all their competitors have.
Unfortunately the only way to buy one in the USA is to do so from one of their participating Dentists or Physicians. To add to the buying difficulty the website does not detail who is a participating Dentist or Physician and nor does it list the price.
The only direction on the US website is this – ” If you live in the US – ask your Dentist for a prescription for Snore Guard”.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find out for sure what the prices are in the USA apart from the “Readers Contributions” I have received from a couple of people. Unless you walk into a participating outlet and ask I can see no other way to find out.
I am guessing each of these US participant outlets will be charging a variety of prices. The price feedback received, suggests this is in fact the case. This is not helpful really when you consider how progressive the internet is.
USA Prices – Readers Contribution
- Available at Shoppers Drug Mart for $39.95.
- Available through London Drugs for $49.99 – 14 day money back guarantee
- SuperStore for $47.99 – 14 money back guarantee
- Walmart Nanaimo, BC, Canada – $49.99
Positives And Negatives Of Snore Guard
🙂 Longevity is the main strength – it has been around since 1989.
🙂 The upper teeth plate includes molding to enable a personal fit for the user. A very important feature for mouthpieces.
🙂 There is a 30 day money back guarantee.
🙂 Options to make use of a 30 day trial is excellent. Trials are popular. Great marketing by Snore Guard.
🙂 The price is extremely competitive at $59.90 + $7.95 shipping and processing in Canada. Great bonus option to purchase a second device for only $39.95.
🙂 Has FDA clearance – always good to obtain this.
🙂 The websites are well structured. Lots of graphics, testimonials and videos.
🙁 You can only purchase it online if you live in Canada – I really cannot get my head around this especially when you consider they have such a huge market at their feet. Approximately 332 million people in the USA are missing out on Snore Guard because they cannot buy this stop snoring mouthpiece on the internet. To be able to sell online to US citizens, Snore Guard must obtain a “prescription” selling license. Surely it can’t be that hard when you consider they have gone to the effort to obtain FDA approval. Most of Snore Guards competitors have this approval. Why hasn’t Snore Guard.
🙁 Whilst Snore Guard looks okay, the design is well and truly dated. All the current mandibular mouthpieces support both upper and lower molded plates which make the units more effective and much more comfortable. The lower extender ramp design is “Clunky” and should be replaced.
🙁 It only has a lifespan of between 3 – 6 months. This is significantly less than many competitors and whilst the price initially can appear very competitive it isn’t in reality when you factor in the lifespan.
🙁 I haven’t been able to find out with any real certainty what the price is for US residents. They vary.
🙁 There is no list of participating Dentists or Physicians in the USA.
🙁 I would suggest there isn’t sufficient forward movement of the lower jaw/mandibular [1mm-3mm] available with Snore Guard. This is the proven method of attack against snoring these days and from what I can see Snore Guard has not addressed this enough within the design features in place.
🙁 Lack of international marketing – Only available in Canada and the USA.
🙁 Snorers who wear dentures cannot use this mouthpiece. To be fair none of the other mandibular repositioning mouthpieces are designed to be worn by people who wear dentures either.
Whilst Snore Guard has been around for longer than any other stop snoring mouthpiece I have reviewed, it is not in my opinion anywhere near the best or being marketed competitively particularly in the USA.
The design is outdated, it looks awkward and only last 3-6 months, therefore making it very expensive for repeat buyers.
Consequently I could only rate this a 5/10 at the best.
Snore Guard Backup Support
Something I have been using for a while now to help me with my sleeping. I sometimes have difficulty getting off to sleep and then actually staying asleep. Waking up during the night is something I have struggled with over many years.
If you have the same types of issues I and many others experience then you might be as interested in Alteril as I was when I completed my research on it.
I would certainly recommend you read my article titled Alteril Sleep Aid Reviews.
It’s a totally natural sleep aid and has proven to be very popular. It is not expensive and is very safe. You can pick it up on Amazon.
Combined with my preferred mouthpiece, it has helped make sleeping a lot more pleasant for me.
My Conclusion / Recommendation
Despite its shortcomings Snore Guard obviously works for some snorers otherwise it would not have lasted as long as it has.
The website testimonials confirms it’s successful as well. The Federal Trade Commission [FTC] monitors testimonials and if they are found to be questionable then companies can pay a heavy price.
- If you are residing in Canada and it appeals to you, then you would be the most likely customer, but if you are located anywhere else then it is just going to be a challenge to try and locate one.
- It does not have a great shelf life and as a result when you factor this into the overall price it can prove to be an expensive anti snoring device if you happen to like it and use it regularly.
I believe there are a number of stop snoring mouthpieces which rate ahead of Snore Guard and would recommend you take a look around my website and see what other options are open to you.
These are just two of the reviews I have completed:
- ZQuiet – a one size fits all prefabricate mandibular mouthpiece -hinged to allow open mouth breathing during sleep.
- My Snoring Solution – chinstrap or jaw support for those who cannot adjust to a mouthpiece.
I have used all four successfully.
